"We named ourselves after the large barrels which the breweries in Haarlem used to use. There is a future in the name: we are (J)OPEN" – which means that they are open to new ideas, flavours, beers and other opinions.

"The European Beer Star is important to us because our beers are tested against other quality beers. Objectively, by blind tasting. The beers are not judged while you know what's in the glass, as is the case with big rating portals." 

Jopen likes to show the awards on the web and on labels. Since 2009, the brewery from Haarlem has won a total of 21 awards in the European Beer Star competition: six gold, eight silver and seven bronze awards.
